Information we collect

When you create an account

If you register as a solicitor, we collect your name, email address, firm name, and SRA number. This is necessary to set up and manage your account.

Profile content (paid members)

Paid members can add additional information to their profile, including a biography, photograph, contact details, and areas of legal specialty. You choose what to include.

Free listings (publicly sourced data)

We create basic directory listings using information that is already publicly available from the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) register and law firm websites. This typically includes a solicitor's name, firm, and location. We do this to provide a comprehensive directory for people looking for legal help.

Payment information

Payments are processed securely by Stripe. We do not see, store, or have access to your card details. Stripe may collect information necessary to process your payment — see Stripe's privacy policy.

Usage data

We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how people use our site. This is only activated after you give cookie consent. See the Cookies section below for details.

How we use your information

• To provide and maintain the Clova Legal directory service
• To manage your account and subscription
• To display solicitor profiles to people searching for legal help
• To communicate with you about your account or our service
• To improve our website and understand how it is used

We will never sell your personal information to anyone.

Under UK data protection law (UK GDPR), we need a lawful reason to use your personal information. Here are the bases we rely on:

Contract

When you sign up for a paid membership, we process your information to deliver the service you're paying for. This includes creating your profile, managing your subscription, and providing access to your dashboard.

Legitimate interests

We create free listings from publicly available professional data (the SRA register and firm websites) to provide a useful directory for the public. We believe this is a reasonable use of information that is already in the public domain for professional purposes. Consent

We only use analytics cookies (Google Analytics) after you give your consent via our cookie banner. You can withdraw consent at any time.

Free listings and your rights

If you are a solicitor and you find your details listed on Clova Legal without having created an account, this is because we have compiled your basic professional information from public sources (the SRA register and your firm's website).

You are under no obligation to keep this listing. If you would like your profile removed, simply contact us and we will delete it promptly — no charge, no questions asked, and no strings attached.

We use cookies that are strictly necessary for the site to function, such as keeping you logged in. These do not require consent.

We use a small number of trusted service providers to run Clova Legal. They only process your data on our behalf and for the purposes described in this policy:

• Supabase — database and authentication hosting
• Vercel — website hosting
• Stripe — payment processing
• Resend — transactional emails
• Google Analytics — website analytics (with your consent)

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information with anyone.

How long we keep your data

• Paid member accounts: for the duration of your membership, plus 3 years after cancellation, then deleted
• Free listings: until you request removal, at which point we delete them promptly
• Analytics data: 26 months (Google Analytics default retention period)

Your rights

Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:

• Access — request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
• Correction — ask us to correct inaccurate information
• Deletion — ask us to delete your personal information
• Objection — object to our processing of your information (particularly relevant for free listings)
• Portability — receive your data in a portable format
• Restrict processing — ask us to limit how we use your data
